I understand that for so many reasons he's not pushing. It be really nice to see it though...

what a nice nice video. It clearly shows that Nick is driving quite conservative. Kerbs at the Ring are very high, wall is very very cloce to run off area.. Surely if BMW wanted to break the Lap record, they could but with many changes in the car and with a hell of a lot of risk for Nick, which was not the purpose of the day. I drove the ring quite extensively and I still think it`s the most exciting ride I ever did. Great video, thanks!

Whoops, sorry, those last two were supposed to be quotes, my bad. :(

They are open wheeled because those are the rules, if they were allowed to, they would cover them in a millisecond. Fortunately, that is illegal and we get great open wheeled racing. If they were given free reign in the aero department, I'd bet 260mph+ would be easily doable, but of course that's a dangerous speed according to the FIA.

You don't know much about physics, do you?

Cold tires; cold brakes; 4000degree brake fluid decomposition, due to heel/toe lag time...pneumatic valving needs to be adjusted for humidity and barometric pressure; Zero camber/center of effort below the spindles; Paddle shifter garage queen...lonesome for competition no doubt...Rx for office stress...

id love to see a lap done in a full race-spec f1 car, full set up and tires...the track record would be demolished! (we need kimi for that :P)

Alright i see what your saying, I just figured the F1 cars have a lot less drag, than say other types of racing vehicles. Well then again, i suppose it depends on the speed of the vehicle.
melvinifudu (June 26, 2008 at 3:04 pm)
You should open a basic physics textbook and read it. F1 designers constantly struggle to balance downforce for faster cornering, but slower straights versus less drag for faster straights but slower cornering.

Easy bro, F1 cars have lots of drag. Open wheels, large nose and tail wings create drag. The F1 car isn't trying to break the speed of sound. It is for cornering under high speeds. |
