Agreed; but lets remember that the first Gundam show came out in 1979. People usually think in the technology of their era. Star Wars is a good example; to shoot lasers/steer at light speed, there's no way to manually do it. The human body is too slow to be able to react to such high speeds. The Eva-resemblance seems like a possibility, especially with the power cords. It would be a long time in before giant robots would be able to successfully run on internal power for more than 5 minutes.

Man,this is i want to wish come true,if the mobile suit's will use for the world war 3i've think the japan will almost powerful technology of the mobile suit will be the best same,and i know this will be near in the future~!!! It cannot be impossible it~!!

I think that gundam portrays mobile suits too simple. I think that if they were real they would be way more advanced than in the show. instead of just walking and shooting and jumping I think they would have some sort of controlled AI thank can react to different situations like knowing its being burned or in water. also the mechanics would probably be made of smart senthetic metal tissue somewhat like the transformers from the new movie. I think they might end up more like evas than gundams :/

I think the idea of mobile suits aren't as unlikely as you guys think. Possibly they would start off the way they did in the show as large construction machines in space to build colonies easier and the idea of them being humanoid isn't unpractical either. just like humans would be the most productive working species in space so would a human robot.legs and arms would be needed to mine minerals from asteroids and build in space. the big problem would be the way they move.
