This video sucks. The guy soo wasn't putting the pedal to the metal w/ the Yamaha. 13mph!!! YEA RITE! Now I'll give in to the fact that a 2 stroke will alwayz win during holeshot but come on! That was just to try to convince people who don't know jack about outboards to get an e-tec. I'm a marine mechanic and I know better. Just my 2 cents.

We anticipate that there will be some thrashing around as service technicians and owners discover the nuances of living with E-TECsIf you don't have a certified E-TEC mechanic within a reasonable distance, and / or you don't have a place to get spare parts, don't buy an E-TEC. It's not worth the hassle, no matter how much you want an E-TEC.

The E-TEC fuel injection system is based on the same design principle as the Ficht fuel injection system: injection pressure is created by a ram in the the injector itself. This is unlike Tohatsu/Mercury, which use separate compressors to pressurize the fuel or a fuel/air mix before it gets to the injector.

As an E-Tec mechanic you must be a busy man!

What is funny is how you never see running costs compared! If you run an E-Tec for a year every weekend the amount you could spend on oil is enough to service a four stroke half a dozen times! Fuel consumptions may be similar but running costs certainly are not. This is based on actually trials not a personal opinion!

BWB also ran a similar test of 225 DFI 2-strokes, same competitors and rules (see"The Main Event", also by John Tiger, jr). Their results:Top speed:E-TEC: 84.2 mph (86.7 mph with a new production design gearcase)Optimax: 90.0 mphHPDI: 84.9 mphBest Fuel Economy:E-TEC: 5.0 mpg (5.7 mpg with a new production design gearcase)Optimax: 6.2 mpgHPDI: 5.8 mpgAll DFI's are pretty close with each other.

that hapens to snowmobile all the time. no problem on any brand.

The target for these adds are people who want a 4 stroke, so they dont compare them to 2 strokes. E-Tecs are comprable with all other types of 2 strokes anyway.

Its funny you never see e-techs do against other DFI's. How would they compare to optimax or v-max? I guess not as good or maybe worse
