New 8 Capacitor washer launcher. They are 3,700 uF at 450 volts each, in a parallel/series arrangement for a total of 7,500 uF at 900 volts. That is about 3,700 Joules of power.

You will need a wire wound resistor 500 to 1000 ohms and at least 10 watts, 25 watts would be better. Some throw a light bulb in there but I think it would have to be in the primary of the power transformer.

where did you buy the large capacitors?and what model are they, i cant seem o find them where i live.

I think coil guns are better then rail guns, I think...

It is safe for some specific resistors. NOT for the cheap 1/4w ones you buy at eletronics store.

Oh thank you. I'm gonna build one of these. I bet it's gonna be funny as hell. :D

I spent about $100 for the capacitors and the big SCR. The cabinet and the transformers were picked up for free.
CJackSparrow79 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
How much did you spend to do this? I'd like to build one.5:29 OMG, 4.100V, this scares me, that thing could kill an elephant.

might be something to try. all that is needed is a bank of Capacitor and 2 copper rails and some thing to cross the rails ie. ammo. the capacitors turn the rails in to magnets and the ammo in to one as well. the current runs down one rail through the ammo and up the other and the magnetic force on the ammo pushes it out the end.

I have never made a rail gun, so I would not know.
whatblack2284 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
how well would that bank work for a rail gun? and i do mean rail not a coil gun.
