David Bowie had a lot of good trademark songs in his career. This song is one of his best from the 80's. The video is among one of the best classic 80's videos.

he was a really heavy smoker, two packs a day normally, that would change his voice. But he was also getting older and developing different styles. A high voice wouldn't have suited Let's dance anyways lol

as far as i know, the change over time was due to his changing/developing style, changing fashion etc.hes a talented singer with an impressive range, and was always able to do both, he just chose to use different pitches at different times.i also imagine the higher voice was easier to achieve in his youth, but i doubt this was a major factor.

I'm curious about something: what happened to David Bowie's voice between songs like "Space Oddity" and "Starman" to songs like "Let's Dance" and "China Girl"? I've noticed his voice gets lower, but was it just because he got older, an accident of some sort, or a disease he had? I've looked for the reason why, but for some reason I just can't find it.

There's only about 30 seconds of SRV on this video - at the end. You can tell Nile Roger's riff for most of the song. Sounds just like "Good Times." Bowie lived in Australia at the time with 14 year old Joe. SRV's manager did not want him playing second banana on a tour. Bowie was disappointed but his regular guitarist, Earl Slick in New York, was available. It became a huge tour.
