John Lennon loved Marianne Faithfull's version on Broken English. In her autobio Yoko Ono sent her a note praising it.

As a musician who loves John's music (I named my son after him), I do not like this. Sometimes music lives on its on and the lyrics just hold down the melody, but that was rarely the case with John. Especially in this song, He just bounces between two simple chords, its the lyrics that make the song. The added bassline and guitar stabs, just blew it for me. They take away from the content. That is only my opinion.
