Not really a joke as much as a statement of fact.There isn't an ablative in greek, Humphrey is making a comparison with latin gramatics where ablatives are treated in a similar way as is genetives in greek.Bernard then decides to show of his knowledge in the aeria by adding to the confusion by making things clear.
