I think Paul means exactly what he is saying, and I do not doubt that he saw a 'vision'. The meaning is clear - this is not the way an earthly mother is thought of or spoken about. The music also has an spiritual feel - an extraordinarily moving tune which he sings strait from the heart Let's not try to interpret Paul's words, after all, in the end we only answer for ourselves - Let it be.
