Why on earth should the M3 have a Turbo? The 3.2 I6 double Vanos M3 engines from both E36 and E46 cars were just about the finest examples of automotive engineering in history. Even today the S50 B32 E36 engine is virtually unrivalled by anything on the road.So why didn't the M3 have a turbo you ask? The answer is simple, because it was designed so it didn't need one. It is a true drivers car rather than an all out spitting and swearing curb monster

JUST around 150 hp? That sounds like a lot to me! Plus it opens up so many other doors for modification that N/A engines don't give you. M3s are already so complex that adding a turbo would make it nearly impossible to maintain, but still not a bad idea in my book. Individual throttles for each cylinder? That sounds a little like overkill to me, but I guess BMW knows what they're doing. Well that's my opinion, I'm sure someone has a better one.

just 100-150hp, thats alot-around what a hot hatch has.And 30% extra on a 330bhp motor. I do know what you mean it would be better to sell the car & just spend the money or even half of it on a quicker 2nd hand car.

330hp for a naturaly aspirated engine is still pretty impressive. bmw doesn't make a whole lot of turbocharged engine because they like to keep a constant power curve with luxury and smoothness in mind. m3's engine is very responsive thou, with one throtle body per cylinder. yes you can turbocharge them, but you are looking at paying 10k just to get around 100-150hp.

Yes, it will outhandle a Corvette. An Amc Pacer could outhandle a Corvette. Corvettes look good and go fast in a straight line. I wasn't saying the engine in the m3 is weak, I was saying that it wasn't turbocharged for reasons beyond me. Of course you can replcae the cams/pistons, flash the ECU, re-plumb everything, install a turbo, and make it turbocharged, but it should be that way from the factory. |
