it's the set up his guitar is wound so thick and tight that you literally have to feel it to believe it which is one reason why he is underrated because most people hear many versions of misirlou and songs like that and think oh I can play that but whenever somebody asks if they can try out his guitar they hit just a few notes and go man how can you play this it hurts my wrist to hit these strings

Do you think there might also have been some natural reverb in the room they recorded in? That's pretty impressive for strings unless he's left one slack maybe?
