it does make sense. rihanna's "nasal" voice is distinct and has power behind it (eh eh ehs). it's very unique and humanistic and natural. i love mandy's version and her "clear" voice but, it does sound like other voices like madonna, mariah carey, christina agularia (sp?) etc all polished and mechanical.

that's pretty interesting. i wonder why mary and hillary rejected it. in a way, it was made for rihanna, the eh eh eh's and the rhythm made it powerful. mandy did a lovely job also.

the meaning was ALWAYS there. catchy tune or not. there's power and meaning in it. that's the beauty of the song. mandy herself said when she heard rihanna sang it that "you can't deny how melodious it is"

that is true. the ella ella eh eh eh's are better suited towards rihanna's version because of the aggressive beats and upbeat tempo. mandy did do a great job though. they both complement each other's versions like a ying yang thing.

that is true. everyone has their own taste. that being said, mandy herself gave credit to rihanna's original version in that "you can't deny how melodic this song is" so think of this as a tribute/salute rather than a replacement/competition to rihanna's version. that's what it's all about. the song of umbrella is powerful enough to transcend many different genres and styles so why don't we all just listen and enjoy the umbrellas over us in the crazy rainy world.
