TheDeepBlue: Because Steamboat Willie was the first cartoon with sound and because it was Mickey's first successful short. That's not to say that Plane Crazy & Gallopin' Gaucho weren't successful, but they were a bigger success with sound than they were as the silent shorts they started out as being.
