It must have been somewhere frustrating for the people on the street : they had a free (last) Beatles concert going on just a few meters away from them but they couldn't SEE them! The sound must have been pretty bad down there too.

Hmmm no, U2 did it too. The real fact is that the Beatles were the FIRST to do it, and from now on anyone else trying that will be compared to them, just with the endless innovations they introduced in music.

John says something about smoking pot, so the release has been held up. If you're young enough you may one day see the restored version released in all it's glory. The film kind of drags. I am more interested in seeing 2 or 3 days worth of outtakes that they have. Hell, now we might as well wait for the Blue-ray.

At one point this was listed as the most requested film that had yet to come out on VHS. Someone had claimed legitimate right to release of it and started putting out copies. They got ceased and desisted and had to pull it. You can get tapes out there claiming to be copies from the legit release but they are most likely bootleg copies. The original release was a bad copy. The master had degraded and had not yet been restored.
