It comes back to the issue of taste: you don't have to feel the social barriers resist you in order the relate to the novel per se, but I think that this novel speaks (universally, if you must put it that way) to anyone really who's been in love and had something external resist it. That being said, the purpose of a novel is to tell a story, not trying to appeal to the mass pathos of the crowd.Look, we have v. different ideas on what makes a gd novel/song, so let's just agree to disagree, kay?

I think we have to wrap this up quick: there are others getting a bit tired of our debate alrdy. I don't think characters must travel to the light/dark side to show they've changed. Most ppl don't change if you think about it; they harden. Which is what Heathcliff has become.Kate Bush focuses more on the emotions the two characters feel and the insanity it breeds. That 4 me does not compromise the song in anyway. Kate Bush brings something new or overlooked in the novel, she doesn't recycle it.

Remembered this from a SNL performance; so fine. Was surprised to see Kate do some vocal work with the band Big Country in 1986. Her voice is the genuine article. And, it's only my opinion, I think her dance adds so much to the video. Takes guts (and talent) to bare yourself in front of the camera like that. The Finn brothers do an equally nice job of it as well.
