All right, I don't object to anything you just said. However, based on the way you phrased the first comment, you seemed to be attacking the science of evolution as a whole, which is ridiculous in the face of modern advances. Correct me if I'm wrong, I shouldn't have assumed anything. You are clearly better read in this subject. I'm still in high school, and I havent' finished the Origin of Species yet.

Actually, science has taken a trajectory in a direction that Darwin influenced, and a lot of these "new" sciences are dispassionately revisiting Darwin as the template for all matters concerning evolution(irreducible complexity), and cell biology. Yes, as you openly admitted, Darwin was good for his time, but science has outstripped much of his mechanistic metaphors, etc.

Hahaha. Wow. Only Hitchens would do this.

Cut the pseudo-intellectual babble and list some of these 'glaringly obvious gaps' that haven't been either remedied by modern science or soundly refuted a thousand times over. Regardless of what you think of Darwin ideas (and they were extremely impressive for their time), evolution is now at the heart of modern biology. You can't get around it. At least, I seriously doubt it.

I think it's true that some men feel the need to be funny, but I don't think they always succeed. In fact, I have a lot of girlfriends who I find considerably more funny than most of the boys I know. I also think that female humour can be more intelligent and biting than male humour. Also you don't have to be a "dyke" or "butch" or a Jew to be funny. What was that all about?

Look at your grammar! then ask youself who the stupid one is.

To be more succinct, there are glaringly obvious gaps in Darwinian theory. But, then again, the theory of sexual selection came at a time when England was at its zenith, and the west was in need of a lodestar(read:Herbert Spencer).

Men have to be funnier? Really? And you believe this bit of Darwinian leger de main, one size fits all thinking to be true? Yeah, on the surface it seems to be an compelling, and quite nearly convincing argument, but then I saw the guys that my Sis-in-Laws are/have dated, and I conclude that the human animal is not so easily explained. Still, if you look at the animal kingdom, and humanity aggression has many ways of expressing itself, and that's what a woman wants, aggression, right?
AshtrayWisdom (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
Not that I agree with every comment, but the idea that men have to be funnier than women is 100% correct.

He doesn't change his mind. I mean, C'mon, let's get real: there are a few women comedians which are funny but the overwhelmingly majority are not so funny. You can yell, scream and throw a temper tantrum all you want but it doesn't change a thing. With notable exceptions such as Sarah Silverman and Kathleen Madigan the majority of them simply are not funny.
