For the launch of its new V-Power gasoline in Barbados, the local Shell distributor spares no expense - two Ferrari F1 cars were brought in, and one did several runs on a closed public road between two Shell stations. Residents were in anguish, fans were in awe!

No, he's not right. Yes, decibels are a logarithmic scale, but it's a log base 10 scale, not log base 2. An increase of 10 decibels corresponds to a 10x increase in volume (power), NOT a 2x increase. The use of base 10 for the log scale is why it's called a DECibel.

No, TonyC1968 is right. Decibels are a logarithmic scale. I don't know the actual base, but that's something you should check out on Wikipedia.
