Vann did get what he wanted. They killed Diem and the US got the big war it wanted. But they failed miserably. But they didnt understand the history or the culture of vietnam. Ho delcared war of liberation after the US installed the absolute worst puppet dictators, and Ho then got massive aid from the soviets and even china.

Diem didnt want US troops in Vietnam because he knew they would fuck it up, and Ho would be able to declare a war of liberation. So the US killed Diem to get him out of the way. And killed Kennedy to get him out of the way. Then exactly what Diem predicted came true. US installed one crappy puppet dictator after another, each one getting worse and worse. Then they pulled out and left the whole mess because Nixon was kissing China's ass.

prevented farther bloodshed bullshit. They should have defended the DMZ. They deliberately gave up and deliberatey stopped supplying ammo and equipment because Nixon was kissing China's ass.

They killed the people who didnt want massive US troop escalation in Vietnam- Diem and Kennedy. Then after they screwed everything up,with their incompetent puppet dictators, they pulled out because Nixon was kissing China's ass. They could have enforced the DMZ just like in Korea. It was US responsibility. They messed everything up by killing Diem, then they pulled out and left the mess behind them. It is US responsibility.

Where did you get this info? I talked to a former arvn jet pilot who told me that after the americans pulled out, they put smaller fuel tanks on the jets they left for ARVN so they didnt have the range to go past DMZ.

I agree with you about ARVN. Those guys were tough. No helicopters for them. They walked. They drank paddy water and got little food. The Americans could leave when the going got tough, but ARVN fought till the end against enormous odds. I wish it could have ended differently. South Vietnam would have been better off had the americans never gotten involved. The US's biggest, stupidest mistake was to kill Diem.

The US pretty much sacraficed South Vietnam once they found a better deal in China. I think it was right to normalize relations with china, but we never should have dumped vietnam. Vietnam was ouir responsibility. We destabilized the government by killing Diem, so we should have stayed for the duration, like we did in Korea. South Vietnam would have been a great, prosperous country.

the war became a very hot issue in the US. Also, the domino theory was used in 1965 to justify sending the troops. It was complete US propaganda. There was no such thing as "global communism" . By 1970's we were normalizing relations with the biggest domino of all-China. Its hard to say we are fighting global communism at the same time Nixon is toasting Mao in Beijing.

what about the domino theory? if they let south vietnam fall then the whole SE asia will fall? why did they suddenly change their minds and leave? Also to beatles bitch ARVN were not pussies. We died way more than you so shut the fuck up. the only way we can be pussies is if we died less than the US, which we didn;t

If America listened to John Vann , the war could have been won. Other than that , the ARVN were chickens. |
