Feeney said, "the outrage that I feel over certain recent insulting actions by the City of Berkeley, CA. In late January, Berkeley's City Council voted to tell the Marines to close their recruiting station in the city. The Council actively instructs the City Attorney to explore legal options to remove the recruiting station based on prohibition of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. I am shaken that the City Council approved a recommendation defaming the U.S. Marine Corps and all of our brave men and women in uniform. To add insult to injury, during the same meeting the City Council also voted to give protest group Code Pink a parking space in front of the recruiting office once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week. I am shocked and outraged with the City of Berkeley. The Berkeley City Council's recent actions have labeled the Marine Corps Recruiting Station as "uninvited and unwelcome intruders." This treatment is unacceptable and will not go without consequence. There are several vehicles that I have signed onto to address this mistreatment of America's brave troops. The Semper Fi Act (H.R. 5222) rescinds funding for the City of Berkeley, CA and transfers those funds to the Marines. I have also signed on to a letter to the President asking for the immediate rescission of funds appropriated for the City of Berkeley in the Omnibus Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2008. Finally, House Resolution 958 which recognizes the sacrifices they have made and commitment that the United State Marine Corps has in defending the rights of Americans since 1775.I have been urging Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a native Californian, to bring these bills to the floor immediately. These brave men and women put their lives on the line every day so activists groups can shout insults at them. Your loved ones or friends have given selflessly of themselves and they should be honored for that service, not shamed or ridiculed. It is time for those of us in Congress to stand up and say enough!"Semper Fi Congressman Feeney and thanks

Yeah, let Berkeley pay for its own overpriced 'organic' lunches!

Berkeley has not, can not, and never will be "sanctioned." They pay state, city, county and federal taxes so they deserve the money. Using the word "sanctioned" against a any city anywhere in the US no matter the actions of said city or people is nothing other than fascist. You are a fascist. This is the US. If you don't love it and all it's tax paying citizens and our freedoms get the fuck out you fascist motherfucker. I am sure you will be more than welcome in Iraq...
StoogeWatcher (June 24, 2008 at 11:36 am)
The point of sanctioning Berkeley is that if Berkeley won't support American soldiers, then they don't deserve American government dollars and that could be in the tens of millions.
rodneykingman (April 21, 2008 at 7:35 am)
That's not what I mean. You seem (by your statement) to be subscribe to the common fanatic far-right-wing-nut job neo-con fascist belief that Berkeley should be sanctioned like they tried (& miserably failed) to do at the state & federal levels. I am saying that it is impossible to take money/sanction Berkeley because they pay tax. So this money cannot be taken away because they pay into it. The millions they get a year (for schools, transportation, etc) is rightfully theirs & always will be.

To prevent another from free movement is a form of assault. Nothing code pink does makes sense to me.
Hudd1950 (April 14, 2008 at 8:29 am)
Berkeley can and should raise their own money--how about it, you bunch of silly bastards?
Hudd1950 (April 14, 2008 at 8:27 am)
Is is not assault to prevent another from going where he or she wants to? If it were me, I'd have to make them get out of my way and I have every right to do so--with whatever means is necessary.

Thank goodness! An elected official who tells it the way it is.
