Muti can be viscerally exciting, but as other famous conductors (Munch, Ozawa, Maazel), he tends to gloss over the substance of pieces. Levine, Abbado and Sinopoli handle this music so much better.

You forgot your head also!! How can you compare Levine with Muti. Muti is the king of Verdi!!!No precision???Wtf are you talking about. He brings out the texture so well, you can take a pen and paper and write the score out!!!

Nabucco was Verdi's third opera, and so still heavily influenced by the great composers of the era, including Rossini. Conductors only control how a piece is performed, not it's content (well....not so true with Toscanini, but that's another argument entirely). |
