Materialism means that communists do not view human beings as having inalienable rights which no one should violate. Communism views people as tools to be used to serve the Communist party at any cost. Therefore the actions of communist regimes from the Soviet Union, to China, North Korea, Cuba and Vietnam brought about the wholesale robbery of money and homes and land of the their citizens.

I say we should give the president a chance to make the difference. We have to understand that he is addressing not just the United State, the Vietnamese Americans, but also the world as a whole. If he wasn't honoest and true to his words, he jeapordizes his reputation, his integrity as a president of a Country and the credibility of the Vietnamese government. Can he affort to lose respect from all the nations and countries all over the world? I seriously doubt that he can.

I do know that there is a ton of corruption through out Viet Nam and human rights have been greatly violated but I think that we can't put all the blame on a new president of Viet Nam. Given that he is the president, the man can only do so much to make any changes for the good of the country. Expecting him to rid corruption and human rights violators over night is a feat that would be difficult for even the greatest of leaders through out history.
