Not the easiest of reads (at least not for me). But well written and brilliantly articulated indeed. Dawkins was more for the lamen, IE, easier to understand whereas Hitchens is so well spoken that he forgets that most people don't know all those massive words he uses. I had his book in one hand and the dictionary in the other, but thanks to him I now have a wider range of word usage. Enjoy!

in a manner that deals with the actual threat, but rahter increases the threat. Finally, when I said that there is an impending backlash of Islam, I meant that the participants in it USED to be secular fighters defending their territory, but NOW they are/are being converted and convinced with the fanatical propaganda of Al-Qaeda.

If you don't agree with me that Saddam's Iraq was a buffer against Al Qaeda, READ Micheal Scheuer's book; it presents evidence from multiple CIA sources that Saddam's Iraq did keep the majority of Al-Qaeda from spreading. I am not arguing against the "War on Terror", but rather arguing that it has not been conducted... (cont.)

against the "invaders", by using examples of civilian casualties (collateral damage) that occured while NATO forces were engaged in combat. The longer the so-called "War on Terror" continues without effectively addressing the parties that threaten America's security, the more enemies America indirectly creates in the Muslim population. Additionally, the invasion of Iraq has removed a buffer zone that kept Al-Qaeda from moving large numbers of religiously motivated fighters...(cont.)

A careful examination of history will reveal that not all people in the "Muslim" world are not simply religious fanatics willing to give up their lives for a holy war. The tribal Pashtuns in Afghanistan are not for a global war against the West, but are more concerned with defending their territory from "invaders". By not dealing a crippling blow to Al-Qaeda, it has slowly been able to convince the Muslims initially acting in self defense to now go on the offensive... (cont.) |
