I read this a little differently...I believe it was an affair, in the sense of marriage. He leaves her in the end for her own sake, so she won't get tied up in the mistakes he's made with his life...That's why he says "And anna begins to fade away...It's chasing me away."

Hi, cassandrajean06 --- it's not a stupid question at all, because the lyric *is* very elliptical. Essentially, the singer (and the object of his desire) has suddenly realized that this could be *the* love of his life, and it frightens him, so he's trying to talk himself out of it (treat it as "just another affair", like collecting butterflys). She's scared, too, but then "Anna begins to change her mind", and *his*, too -- I hope it was a happy ending (that's the way I read it). GREAT love song!

I just discovered this song. It is amazingly beautiful and utterly sad. So many feelings going through me right now. |
