The Yupik people who live there DON'T WANT anything from the outside. If they did, they'd live in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Homer or somewhere more habitable. And what is poverty to a proud people who don't operate their village on a monetary system. They rely on trade. They rely on each other. And they don't need to depend on Juneau's politics--they depend on their Native elders--as they've done since long before native people even stepped foot on the contiguous Lower 48 states.

Also... Listen to the Couric interview again, people. She didn't say she's been there. She said "Its right over the border". She said her foreign policy experience is from "...trade missions back and forth". MY DAD was a part of those "trade missions" during the early 90's, helping to rebuild refineries in Russia after Gorby tore the Iron Curtain down. And I, as an Alaskan, am PISSED CNN sent reporters there to meddle with our Native people. LEAVE THEM ALONE!!

Big Diomede Island can be seen from more vantage points than simply Little Diomede Island. Wales, Alaska, for one... Tin City--an unmapped Air National Guard base for two--which sits aprox. 150' above the Bering Sea and offers a birds-eye view. And gee... Did anyone ever consider that since Gov. Palin is the Commander in Chief of Alaska's National Guard that she just might have been to the military bases SHE CONTROLS??
