CHECK OUT THE 2009 CHALLENGER SRT8 PERFORMANCE TEST: http://www.edmunds.com/insidel... New Jersey — Following the official introduction of the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey, we conducted our own independent testing of the 425-horsepower coupe, now available with a six-speed manual transmission for the new model year. This is the very first chance to test the performance of Chrysler's new muscle car with the combination of the SRT 6.1-liter Hemi V8 and the Tremec six-speed manual transmission. The data includes 0-60-mph acceleration, quarter-mile performance, braking distance and slalom speed, as well as insight from IL's test driver.Chrysler based its introduction of the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8, RT and SE at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, a traditional stop for the NHRA's professional drag-racing championship. Thanks to our portable Racelogic VBOX III testing gear, we were able to use the track for performance testing, although the lack of a suitable plot of pavement precluded skid pad evaluation. The 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with its 425-hp 6.1-liter V8 and six-speed manual transmission accelerated to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds (5.2 seconds with 1 foot of rollout), then reached the quarter-mile in 13.8 seconds at 103.0 mph. This compares to the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with its five-speed automatic that achieved 60 mph in 5.1 seconds (4.8 seconds with 1 foot of rollout) and completed the quarter-mile in 13.2 seconds at 107.5 mph. We're surprised that the 2008 Challenger SRT8 with its automatic transmission has the edge in speed here, but we were slightly suspicious at the time that it had an unusually healthy engine. In comparison, the engine of this 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with its manual transmission seemed slightly sick during our testing. In the end, we're still left with some questions about the comparative performance of automatic and manual transmissions in this car.

Don't get me wrong I really like this car but those times seem really shitty. My brother in laws 05 srt-4 acr ran 13.7 right from the showroom and 0-60 is probly a little better.

this car is awesome and it inherited the style and the look of the old challenger but even with the new SRT8 which deliver 600HP but that is way waste of getting from 0 to 60 in 5.5 second, too much power but not that fast, it should get a low rate of like 4.3 or something like that in a second, anything under 5 second will be nicer, that thing i notice about this, is the rear will skids a lot before it take off so that mean that wheel is not firmly touch the ground, they need to mod it a little

it sounds like the beautiful roar form the 70s challenger has been beaten down to a squeal. they should let it roar once again.

AWD makes a big difference. I'm thinking Dodge did something funky with the rearend to try to get better gas mileage. Same problem with the GT500 Mustang. Throw a set of 4:10's in either one and it'd be a different car for sure. I'll agree though, as a Dodge fan, I'm a little bummed about the raw numbers.

True that man, my dad has an 08 srt and it IS slow for the horsepower but thats because of how perfectly dodge made it. Everything about it is sweet, its mad comfortable and looks cooler than any other car on the road. once its rolling its as quick as anything out there and sounds amazing.

I just saw a guy with an automatic stock R/T run a 13.4, why are the Edmund's drivers always getting such wussy times?

I personally dont give a shit about what the factory did none of my vehicles have ever stayed stock I have a 05 ram with a stroked 6.1 (370) to 7.0 (426) block in it with forged internals fully ported heads, xv intake, custom adapted procharger and a sharadon stage 3 transmission 4.10 gears int the rear. unless someone has the same mods the challenger could never keep, up my point being some of us build some of us bitch.

It needs to be louder, maybe take off the catalytic converters and put some dual glasspacks with an H-pipe. : )
