In 1991, only Ferrari and Williams had a semi auto gearbox.

I believe that the 1989 Ferrari 640 had the first 7-speed gearbox in F1. It was also the first semi-automatic gearbox, AFAIK.I believe most of the top teams had semi-auto gearboxes by 1991 and were using 7 speeds.

Yes, the Ferrari was very competitive in 1990 on many tracks but Spa is a power track and the Honda V10 was still the most powerful engine in 1990.

'Flat out' does not always mean flat out. Even Senna might rest his left foot on the brake but without lifting the throttle. Alesi clearly lifted, but maybe did not brake at all. A different technique perhaps? In any case they are all brilliant and I would happily kiss their feet.

well, Senna did it...AlonsoLegend, you can look at the laptimes in 1990 of Senna and compares him with Prost, at Spa, Senna is like a second faster, and the Ferrari was a lot competitive in 1990...

yes F1 had 7 gears in 91. it actually went back 2 having 6 gears in 94(although Jordan was the last team 2 have 7 gears till the end of 1995.then a few years later 7th gear returned again

Never been smooth indeed...did F1 have 7 gears since then ????!!

Maybe at Spa but Alesi's driving style should not be considered smooth. |
