It's about internet hacking, but the actual message of the movie is what WOPR says in the end "The only winning move is not to play". The movie is a big way of saying "The only way to win a nuclear war is not to have one".MAD is a good thing.

Wargames was a film about internet hacking. This guy was actually a criminal because he was hacking into government computers which is illegal. Incidently hardly anyone had an internet connection when this film was released back in 1983 and there was no world wide web or graphical content to the internet at all. There was only internet programmes like WAIS and USENET a set of online line discussion forums, which is still in existance but has been superceeded by website based forums.
