Abeokuta (tad disappointed when I saw you were based in the UK, not in Nigeria), all music is influenced by what came before it. I don't think any style or culture exists totally in a vacuum, unconnected to anything else.

Does anyone know where this video was filmed ? I know its NYC, and I suspect it was in one of the public schools there. In one of the lyrics, Malcolm mentions the "girls from Fort Green". Fort Greene is in Brooklyn, and is the home of Brooklyn Tech HS. I went there from 1978 to 1981, hence my interest in the film's location. Can anyone enlighten me ? Thanks !!

The main point of this song is the groove by Mahlathini & The Mahotella's. It is one of the hardest grooves to find. There was a TV Show, Canadian I think in the 90's that interviewed him where he said McClaren pinched it, and they got nothing. |
