1/8 or 1/4?

And I thought a 6V-53T taking a 13-ton fire truck from 0-35 in 14 seconds was impressive!!!

HOLY SHIT! thats a quick 6v53.

Hello again,On the Detroits(and all engines using Unit type injectors)adjustingthe rack only serves to delay or advance theinjector timing to a small degree, outside of the normal tolerances. On paper,I designed a "new version" of theDetroit using a turbo only hooked up to a thermatic clutch setup,as part of my school studies, in engine design, when I was 14years old! Little did I know that EMD wasjust releasing the new 645series w/the verysetup of which you speak, later that year.

Thanks.....Do you know if it's a 2 or 4cycle?.....more than likely a 2cycle, I would guess....as for a 4stroke to put out that muchpower would be unthinkable in terms of physical size.....besides, once past about the45-60,000hp level, 4strokes begin to fall offquite rapidly in comparison to the 2 strokes..in terms of thermal efficiency.....at least thats my "take" on it. Ah, I see ur point. Can u increase max fuelling on standard injectors by adjusting rack etc?or are they pretty much set to maximum potential?Another good sound is fairbanks and morse opposed piston 2 strokes. On the 9 cylinder deltic it has an exhaust driven turbo only and no supercharger!would have thought it would be difficult to start but must be enough air to fire in cylinders?EMD use turbo with funny clutch to spin it during start up I believe?in UK we have 701 emd loco's.

I could be wrong but I think its over 120,000hp!!

Yes, thats true of the injectors-vs-power, inthe case of most four strokes....but in the case of "Unit type" injectors such as used onDetroits, EMD, (and now, under license...Cat &Cummins Heavy Truck & Industrial Engines) allthe fuel metering and injection pressure ishandled within each injector, although now...with "common rail" systems, that is furtherenhanced with even higher fuel pressure available to the injector.

Cummins ??? Have you ever listened to 16 or20 cylinder EMD ??....or Any EMD for that matter, regardless of the series, 567,645 or710......But, in my opinion....the old 12v71 Detroit with "rear outlet" exhaust manifoldsspinning the crank from about 2200 r's andup is the All time, hands down winner in the"sound dept"....Bar none. :)I will admit to you though.....I am VERY Biased towards two stroke diesels...and theNapier Deltics in England sound pretty "nice"to.

Yes they are.....but from what I've seen ofthem....in my humble opinion, seem to be arather "complicated" piece of machinery. :)
