I am Spartan 9867 and I was with a squad of marines when Chief activated his grenade... Our sergeant kept us in line, even though all the men around us where running or dieing. He even saved my life then. The man was torn in half when a brute shot him from a foot away. I'll never forget that.

its up to the writers if he dies or lives. back to the mean point i think it is cool that they got a butch of ww2 korea war and Vietnam veterans to play the solders.

whoa wait a second I never seen the ship headed for what ever planet yall said it was headed for I think he was frozen like alot of people said but I dont think the Halo 3 ending was the actual ending I heard about a Halo 4 by Gearbox on Gameinformers 2008 September's Magazine.

wft i never said he got killed by brutes, he was drifting towards a planet at the end of halo 3 if his ship crashed, the cryo systems would have failed, and he's left there he will die without food and water, plus watch the commercial gravesite, its like prof that he's dead

If Bungie informed them of Chief's death, it would not work with Halo 3's ending, as Chief defeated the Covenant presence on Earth and was lost in space. So, how could he have died in the hands of Brutes on Earth if he was in space? Also, I remember reading somewhere they made up their own storyline (this was before Halo 3 was released so it scared people about Chief's fate). I cannot find this article so you'll have to go on my word.

the people who made this commerical got the information from bungie, im not psychic but some people are just to dumb to actualy think,
DantehMan (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
Listening to the way people talk does not reveal his status. That's just stupid. What are you, psychic? There is one commercial that states he is dead, but the makers of that commercial are entirely independent from Bungie and created their own ending. Officially, his status is unknown.
