Perhaps it's because this "bullshit" was unlike ANYTHING else during that time period. Just think back to what was popular in 1988, and you'll see why this was such a breath of fresh air. Drum machines with big reverb, hair & glam rock, and 5 minute power ballads with 1 minute guitar solos, all recorded with robotic emotion. This was like the Berlin wall coming down for the music world. It was raw, emotional, and energetic.
