"No. He won't even know your name" Maribel Verdu is one amazing actress. She was phenomenal in "Y Tu Mama Tambien". I hate to sound too optimistic, but I believe Ofelia's world was real. As children, we lived in our world. Sadly, when a child dies, he remains immortal, hence, why Ofelia "lived to see many skies" ruling alongside her family.

Actually I believe she made imagine it all. Because in the end the King, Queen all resemble her dead parents. And if you look closely it seems the queen is holding an infant in her arms, which would be her little brother. Its like she rewarded herself with everything she had lost in her dieing moments.However I'm not totally sure my interpretation is correct eithersilverSky

I'm pretty sure the director DID say that he in his mind, the fantasy world is real and that she really did go there in the end.Personally, even if I hadn't read that, that's the version I prefer.

The queen says come to my side and seat next to your father in which he has waited for a long time...something like that. Empress that could be true that the beginning Ophelia was the princess from the underworld, but you have to remember that the narrator says its a rumored folk tale.

agreed, but notice how she smile a second before dying, to me, ofelia made a happy ending in her head, after realizing she was dying. i think it was all in her head.

I think its left up to the viewer interpertation, to see the ending as half full or half empty. However in the beginning the princess of the underworld died and was reborn as Ofelia, Ofelia died and was reborn as the princess. It seems death is the passage through the worlds. But still it could've just been a lonely sad girl's imagination.However I think the Director/Writer once said in an interview said either he believed or that Ofelia did return to her world. But I'm not sure.

Such a memorable ending. Guillermo made it so that the viewer has to decide. If what the little girl saw was real or all in hear head.
