Seitei gata was developed by the Japan Kendo Federation and is the competitive link between different systems.

Blayral, I take it you are a Kendo Practioner, what Shu are you?

I have been forced to stop as of a few months ago, as my Dojo Space has been taken over by a Mui Thai Group. I hope to find a new venue soon, but it's not easy here in Manhattan, because the prices for spsce are quite high. Otherwise, yes I think all the katas I have learned are important, even those that are meant for Tachi To. On the other hand I don't do Empty hand studies anymore, yet I do consider them part of my understanding, and critical to advanced theory!

are you still practicing all these ryu, or did you keep only one?
MicPowell (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
I was trained in Muso Shinden Ryu, Eshin Ryu, and Shinto Munen Ryu, and given brief instruction in Shinkage Ryu. Previously I was trained in Tae Kwon Do,& Aikido.
blayral (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
btw, what ryu are you studying?
blayral (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
the point is you are discussing about the ultra fictive and ultra bounded seitei kata. only dumb people think they are realistic, but seitei iai isn't made to be realistic, it's just made to get you a very small sight of what is iai without engage you in a ryu.

Many schools choose the point of finishing a cut randumly, but there are only two standards. If the hasaki is paralell to the floor, this is Chuden,if the kissaki is paralell to the floor this is Gedan. The mistake many make here is the naive notion that the blade is still in Teki. That said you can see that the individual situation determines the correctness of the finish.
