Nick Heidfeld made 3 demo laps in a BMW F1 at the old Nurburgring circuit in Germany. The 24,433 km variant was used: Nordschleife + GP Strecke: Mercedesarena/kurtzambindung (not the full GP track).Laptimes were 8.12 , 8.30 , 7.29 (new record)previous record was 8.06 (Jurgen Alzen, 11-6-2005)Note: this CANNOT be compared to the old records of Lauda and Bellof, the track is now a different length. Also did Heidfeld slow down at the 2 main straights, for fotoshooting. The car was modified with short gears, allowing only a topspeed of 275 km/h. It also used Brigestone Demo tires, these "have no grip", according to Heidfeld.

The sound of that car as it heads off over Flugplatz, towards Aremberg is jaw dropping. These cars really do sound awesome. Just wish there were some v12's and v10's to vary the sonics a little bit at a GP.

The "Ring" is no where near the standard to a modern F1 circuit. It's 14 miles in all. It was removed from F1 in 1976 following Niki Lauda's terrible incident. Also, the track is very bumpy and you could never run a modern F1 car in anger there - far too dangerous.

Nah, let's put Nick in a van instead. Much cheaper. :D

Pfff, you can hear the sound of accelerating for so long. The entire straight after Hatzenbach and Hocheichen you can hear it! Great vid
