http://ec.europa.eu/maritimeaf... Europe, the sea is never far away: the coast is almost 70,000 km long, which equals one and a half times the circumference of the earth. Half the population of the European Union lives less than 50 km from the coast. Many sectors of the economy are active in these coastal zones: port operations, transport, fisheries, industry, energy and tourism. As a result, many policies have a maritime dimension, but most of them are still managed sector by sector.Download: http://ec.europa.eu/avservices...

I appreciate Ms. Phua's concern with European affairs but she should let us handle our own problems; we are pretty good at doing that. Instead, she should go back to whichever third world country she comes from and preach there. We'll send some aid, of course.

If you said this ship was manned by those retards with Seafarers International Union and American Maritime Officers, it wouldn't surprise me. Here's why: Read "Maritime Security by Bonesman322," to understand legalized slavery here in America (thanks in large part to Micky and Shari Arison w/ Carnival Cruise Lines). Google search those keywords and you'll find it quick enough. It explores how Capital interests are using the Mafia to undermine organized labor. It's a long, fascinating read.

Well, it is PR, not academic research... lol But I still see this as a good beginning. After what we saw from the Prestige disaster, or the inability to reach an agreement on a Port Policy, I would say indeed that an integrated policy is essential: would it be only to avoid the past mistakes consisting in looking at issues from only one point of view (be it national or sectoral).

"The aim of the policy proposed by the european comission is to benefit from the wealth offered by the sea in a SUSTAINABLE MANNER. lets look at a few examples of how this integrated policy IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL."Out of it's context I admit it would seem quite authoritarian, but who can say sustainable growth is not absolutely essential?
