Obviously, normal people won't be using it in their houses. It will be used by nuclear power plants. If you need proof, then type "moon for sale" into google. You will see a 49 minute video on google video. That's the documentary that I spoke of. There, you will get all of the info you need.

I know that it was not the only reason. However, Hitler's supply virtually ran out. While the allies had limited fuel, they had it. That is ONE of the reason's why America is feeling pressure. Plus, consider the fact that America's infrastructure is out of date. The government could create a new market simply by replacing America's outdated infrastructure. Just look at that bridge collapse in Mississippi. That is just plain embarrassing.

Once again until i see commercial use of Helium 3 I'm not going to solely rely on it. I'd like to know of the scientists you are referring to when you say it certain to be a success and cover the cost of any "space travel to the moon" before i make any conclusive judgements on its viability and likelihood of success.

Hitler's campaign failed for many reasons and no one in WW2 had cheap abundant energy, America's cleaner energy move will cost money even if the bulk of it is funded by private enterprise whom are not restricted by national boundaries. Secure the economy first. China and India will replace America anyway as the biggest polluters so even if America cut back its a global problem that needs a global solution. Richer nations can afford alternatives another benefit of investment.

It's not based on speculation. Scientists have already built very efficient and long lasting reactors that use it. The only problem is that they can only obtain helium 3 from decommissioned nuclear weapons. The cost of space travel is extremely high, but the stuff is so valuable that it will easily cover the expenses of the trip. There was a good show that talked about this very topic on the science channel. It was called "moon for sale". You can find it right here on youtube.

But you can't have a strong economy without cheap abundant energy. That's one of the reason why Hitler's campaign to conquer the globe failed. Also, remember that if America does not convert to cleaner energy, some of those countries will be absolutely devastated by the effects of global warming (especially Bangladesh). Some of those countries will collapse (either from extreme flooding or extreme drought).

Helium 3 is a proposed source of energy until actual evidence for its commercial use are given i remain sceptical. So those scientists better get working. Also the cost of space travel is huge and time consuming like i said before. I'd rather use the tried and tested method of investment to create new markets (Europe after WW2) then trying to see if this Helium-3 or any other source of energy goes anywhere.
PaxBrittanica (October 8, 2008 at 12:07 am)
You missed the point, without a strong economy you can't fund a military on that scale to defend America's current strategic position. The British were phased out of geopolitical dominance because they has simply exhausted their coffers. You can't threaten to use nukes in every situation, having military resources in the region is what matters but if you can't fund that you lose. America needs new markets and the third world is that.

Finally, what are you saying? Are you trying to tell me that the Chinese will eventually use military force to conquer the Pacific? If so, how does investing in third world countries help us? Investing in nuclear arms would be the only way to counter that threat.

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you. I have been busy with college work. Actually, a number of scientists talked about mining the moon for helium 3. They said that the element is many times more valuable than gold and it is economical to go there. The reason why they didn't exploit it yet is that nobody knew a whole lot about that element until just recently. |
