Billie was a tough chick. She could beat most men in a fight. Not to mention street smart. You had to be tough back then to survive esp. as an African American woman. But at the same time she was an incredibly vulnerable person as many great artists are. That's why artists and musicians often live short, tragic lives. They just can't get along in the real "square" world. They're just too honest emotionally. I think Amy is like that too. I get the impression that she's a very genuine person.

I could see Billie and Amy being great friends as they share alot. Sure, Bille probably went through more than Amy with not only personal troubles but also with all that was going on racially at the time. They both posess(ed) god given voices that will be remembered for generations to come.

its amazing to me that you so called "jazz lovers" put down on the great talent that is amy winehouse. im sure if lday day was around today she would be more then happy to share the stage with amy. we shouldnt focus on amys private life but rather pray for her and hope she continues to bless us with her AMAZING talent. if you were really "jazz lovers" you would understand amys gift and be glad that she is carrying on the legacy of people like the great lady day!!!!!!!!!!
