Ya, Gaara is not always the most human one of them, I mean he can't sleep, though he is often paired with cookies, (that just sounded odd, hmm) So, I don't know. When, it comes to Deidara I see it as there are 3 or 4 diffrent people, 1. those that think he is a she. 2. those that know he is a he, 3. People like me, the Yaoi fans and 4. Ones that couldn't care really any less.
