This movie is one of my very favorites just because of what it is. I love it. And this video sent chills up my spine throughout nearly the whole thing, with the music and video shots. And I don't even want to think of all the technicalities, it is really something wonderful.

good movies are not measured by how much money they make at the box office, my friend. By the very nature of this film, one can assume commercial success is not what they were aiming at when they decided to make this movie.

yes if there was mere focus on the historic context, it were not as good for the building of the "european nation". they wanted to create a myth, like the nationalist create the myth of "langemarck".but the movie wasnt very successfull, so they failed.

you're seeing it too much like a history documentary. I too love history and I think it is important for people to be aware of it, but the point of this movie is how strong the spirit of fraternity can be. Even in war, even amongst enemies. Even if most of those men died shortly afterwards. If the movie had focused on the historic context more and it already did, the meaning wouldn't be so obvious.

in reality some of the troops who made the christmas peace (wide parts of the fightning troops made it) declared war against each eather. they did it "friendly like". that sounds strange, but shows that they thought in another way.in all armies there were a lot of soldiers who fought till the end of the war, whith great courage. for many german soldiers the war wasnt even over after 1918, they fought again as members of the Freikorps.i think this movie did not showed this enough.

the movie was interesting. i like history and i think its good when people think about it and this movie is helping in that case.but!for my opinion, it wasnt enough of the feeling that was called in germany "the spirit of 1914". only the beginning scene with the children showed the importance to fight for your nation for many people in this time.of course the "joy in war" was lost for the most of the soldiers very soon. but they still fought 4 more years. how can you exlpain that? |
