Even I feel I'm reading too much into it at this point, but I think considering those as a pro would be kind of a double standard.Besides, Richard is just a supporting character. Fans enjoy him for being a sadistic and yet goofy badass. Not to knock on the character at all, but he's very simple. It doesn't take an unhappy and/or twisted mind to create a character like him.
