wow this was absolutely hilarious haha =]i'm american and i completely understood the half thing...i'm embarrassed by my fellow americans =/ i hate stupid people as well!you are so right about the new york subways! you're screwed if you're halfway in/out!

I actually thought that "half ten" meant 9:30 because I'm German and here it is like that. It's actually kinda stupid. When we say "halb zehn/"half ten" we mean something like "half of the tenth hour of the day is gone" (I think), so that's pretty strange... I think it makes more sense to use "half ten" as "half past ten" like you do in English.
