Volk is a Sambo master so he is very familiar with foot and leg submissions.

damn that was a pretty good fight...i give a lot of credit to volk, he did a good job escaping all those submission attempts

If you look the submission thecnics, i mean "arm lock" or "triangle" almost they all existed in Judo first than BJJ of course, they are older than Brasil itself but the difference of BJJ is the ground game, the "chess" game, the Gracie way of fight without much power and lot of stamina being saved the philosophy of use less power as possible and more thecnic... BJJ is unique it's not like that knowing Judo makes you good against a BJJ fighter... but you are right most of the time you bet the man

in russia judo is bit different, it is closer the original form than the modern judo most know of. it is not uncommon that ppl in russia train judo with sambo or sambo with judo, either way. this is the part most bjj guys do not know: bjj has the same technique base that old school judo, almost all of the bjj ground techniques existed in judo before they did in bjj! so, it is not that plain and simple that bjj fighter would have the upper hand. i would bet for a man not the style in this case.
