It's POKE Salad, not POLK. In the Southeast US a poke is a paper sack. Poke salad is the greens you gather in the garden or in the woods and can gather in your poke.

how can anyone say that J.C. was overated he wrote message songs and delivered them with that haunting voice a true legend

Overrated eh? Well I guess being hugely popular with fellow musicians for oh about 5 decades makes someone 'overrated.' Considering that Bob Dylan said he saw Cash as an almost religious figure, youd still say he's 'overrated?'

And being a Cash fan doesn't have to mean being a country fan...I don't think that from Folsom PB to Hurt you can call that being OVERRATED.

"...You smoke grape-vine..." totally awesome comment!! This is an incredible duet, even if it starts a little 'stoned'!!! For a close second, check out Elvis in August, 1970, for a different, more hard-rocking version of this TJW classic!!

I agree - the best part of the Cash TV show's are the guests

Being a country fan doesn't have to mean being a Cash fan . In a word , he's OVERRATED . He always managed to turn his guest's songs into a goofy Vegas style mess ( also see Roy Orbison's appearance on the show ).

Let you into a secret (coz he's never really been commercialised) he's just released a new album last week called "Deep Cuts" but you're going to need a good stereo to play it on - coz it's got lots of nasty guitar & kick ass Bass Drum. You can order it from his website - there are also some sound demo's on hi my space page & Ama zon. 40 years on & still a living legend - hope you have enough good taste & luck to get some of his music in your collection |
