Nah, he was not high on drugs. He had a mental health problem. They say that most of his career he was struggling with depression. I guess he couldn't deal with the demons anymore. It's really sad when you think about it especially him being so talented and educated. I love this song. I play it even when it's not Christmas. RIP Donny Hathaway. <3
