Our capitalist retailers praise plastic shopping bags for speed and ease of transactions, and as consumers we appreciate this timesavings. We need a standardized cleanable & reusable shopping bag format, which will fit on the existing bagging stands in order to maintain the speed of the sales transaction. Banning would only shift production to other "use-and-toss" bags and not solve the problem.
