thats only if you have a really good router with a built in firewall. plus, doing what he is saying is better than anything else you can do

most routers by default block incoming connections, you have for manually forward ports to allow connections from the internet to your computer. They do allow your connections (most often TCP/IP out to a server, then this connection is used till it is closed to transfer all the information. This is why OS's have software firewalls to stop possibly malicious software from trying to make connections to the internet to send out private data or steal cycles from your computer.
