Well that's an odd thing to look for because, according tot eh myth, it was last seen with the Lady of the Lake. She took it and wasn't heard from again as I think the story went.

The reason they used that "alien" plot is because the crystal skulls are based off of actual Anthropological finds of different variations of skulls made of earthly minerals.When sublime creations such as these surface people are quick to think of aliens.
