Power plants are much easier to maintain and regulate than individual vehicles. And, as mentioned below, there are plenty of places with clean fuel alternatives. I don't advocate burning coal or oil for electricity - but how about garbage? Or maybe biodigesters from feedlots and dairies?

I totally agree..If you had a strong arm on a product or market, you'd be upset too if someone came along with a proven device that not only works better than your item yet it's better for our planet. Water4fuel,info

I love James Woolsey's description of the coalition of people who support new, little-to-no-gasoline technologies. It's true that there's a big coalition of people who want this, and that enables change.

10 years from now, GM is gone, all in

You can use electricity from whatever other source - wind, solar, tidal, geothermal, nuclear. You don't have alternatives for oil.You may also feel free to ignore the global warming shtick - it's much more of an issue that the oil price isn't really going down and that drilling in the ANWR is a drop in the bucket. Think of the wallets, not of the whales.

We had American-made EV1, powered by American electricity. But GM took them away, crushed them, and drove us to buy Toyota RAV4-EV.GM is hooked on oil.

Sock puppets are paid by GM or Big Oil to blather the same old lies.Wake up! This is a big issue, whether we stay enslaved to foreign oil dictators. These dumb posters are putting the money they get paid above common sense.Solar power and plug-in cars, it works for hundreds of us. Why not you??
mike081283 (June 6, 2008 at 5:25 am)
why dont you guys put solar pannels on the roof of the car make a costom 1 that molds to the shape of the roof make it berly noticable and when the car is sitting i can auto recharge like if u park it to goin the store or ur sitting in traffic u park it in the sun and bam free power if i had the money id built a great car that uses every energey effishent device or idea out there like magnetic regen breakin and someing i rather keep to my self so i dnt get riped off just take a deep breth hint

Our RAV4-EV has a NiMH battery that lasts longer than the life of the car -- even a Toyota car -- over 200,000 miles. So why not allow some people to BUY them??
liveoilfree (June 4, 2008 at 3:25 pm)
Actually, we make more electric than we use from our rooftop solar system. The money we saved on gas paid for the system, now, we drive for free. NO gas, no oil, no smog checks.
