Once Aus and NZ realised that England wasn't a super-power any more and unable to defend her empire - let alone herself, we switched allegence to the US.Let me just say I dont completely understand your point. The Japanese entered the war (II) buy bombing Pearl Harbour. Thats how the US entered the war.
