I was just four years old when this song came out in 1969, but I can remember hearing it at the time. I think I was in my teens before I finally learned it the title, but the "ride a painted pony" line always stuck with me. I particularly like this long version with the trumpet and piano bridge and the outro with the guys saying "That wasn't too good", which adds a little humor. Today, I sing this at karaoke from time to time, and it's one of the songs I do best.

When I hear the word "disco" i think dance, and one can't dance to "Mr. Blue Sky". It's kinda Beatlesque, in it's own way.I'm no dancer, but trying to dance to Blue Sky would be bizarre. Jeff Lynn is an engineering genious. i.e. Mud Wilbury, "You're Not Alone", Roy O., didn't like it but jl mixed it up, put it out there, and it was very very good.

Yeah, I love this even more now then then when pops played it to death. The laughing and making fun of their own impovised goofiness at the end is a keeper.

Actually, they were the first rock band to use horns.. the trumpets are great.. and while ELO did OK their first 3 albums.. I LOVE Eldorado..but.... Mr. blue sky was disco-influenced crap.

A great song. I love it. Jazzy and different. The brass makes the tune. I like when they laugh at the end. I think they were stoned. It reminds me of "Mr. Blue Sky", ELO. Not in the manner of the music, but the manner of being different, new and fresh.
