To be honest... I think it was the voice that ruined Raiden in MGS2 (and hence why so many people call him "fag" or "gay"). In the Japanese version of MGS2 Raiden has a voice actor who has a much more "manly" voice similar to Snake's. Which is why Raiden is usually more popular in Asia compare to western countries and you don't see much people in Japan hate Raiden.
